Last month I hosted a Life Is A Script Party; all the guests had to come dressed up as a character from a sitcom or a movie. Putting the party together did not require much of my time and I did not stress over any aspects of the planning because I followed my ultimate cheat sheet for party planning. My ultimate cheat sheet for party planning focuses on The Big Five: guests, food, decor, pictures and games.

Use a caterer if you can fit that into your party planning budget. If you don’t have room in your budget for a caterer, purchasing the food from the catering menu of a restaurants is a more affordable option. I often use the catering menu from Bravo Restaurant. For the Life Is A Script party, I had a Reto from Reto’s Kitchen come to my house and prepare all the food. It was wonderful to have Reto take care of everything for me so I had time to enjoy my guests. The food he prepared was delicious!
I am not fond of spending a lot of money on decor. Usually my only decor is fresh flowers in vases displayed on tables around the house. Beyond the fresh flowers, I am not willing to spend any more of my time and money because I always regard my guests and their clothes and costumes as being the decor; case in point, for my Life Is A Script party, the minimal decor was much compensated by the fact that everyone was dressed up as a character.
Look at the picture bellow… I laugh whenever I see it. It is wonderful to have a photographer at the party because the pictures taken will forever remind me of the fun times I had with my friends. James Piedad with Photos by James Piedad took pictures at this party and he did an amazing job!
Games are essential for having a fun party but they can require a lot of time to plan out. However, thanks to the Heads Up game planning the games for the party was a breeze. Heads Up is an reverse charades type game that you can download on your phone and it has different categories for play. Since all my guests at my party were dressed up in character, I chose the Express Yourself category; meaning the team had to act out feelings such as angry, dizzy, or hot, and one person in the team had to guess the feeling being acted out.
Now that you have an understanding of the The Big Five for party planning, here’s one important piece of advice: Do Not Obsess Over Details because no one will notice the little mishaps. Parties are for relaxing and enjoying your friends and not for stressing over planning and making sure every little detail is perfection.
You are now ready to plan a fun theme party for your and your friends!
